I am a servant of God. I have said this many times before however on this day it had a even a greater meaning to me. On this day, I was feeling sad and I said to myself, "I feel like all I am is a servant in this world." In that instant, I could clearly understand what those words meant to me. I am a servant, I am a servant of God. When I said those words out loud, they rang true throughout my body, mind and soul. It was not a lie or an exaggeration, I am a servant of God. Perhaps I was just not paying attention when the maker's hand was upon me forming and shaping me like a potter does his clay. He refined me through the furnace of affliction to what he wanted me to be. He did not want me to be a leader of a nation or of industry. He did not want me to be a genius of technology. He just wanted me to be his loyal servant.
In my sadness, when I said those words, "I feel like all I am is a servant in this world." I was belittling myself at being a servant. This was a mistake I made for I did not know, how important it was for me to be a servant and the importance that God placed upon it. Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 9:35 "And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, "If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." Matthew 23:11-12 "The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." God took mercy on me and made me into a man who is humble and obedient. I am someone who is reliant upon him to guide my way. He loved me enough to make me into his servant. He made me into a worthy vessel rather than leaving me to be a vessel that will be broken and thrown away.
There are many people in the Bible who called themselves to be servants of Jesus Christ and I am honored to call myself to be a servant of Jesus Christ as well. Romans 1:1 "Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus..." Philippians 1:1 "Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus..." Jude 1:1 "Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James..." and James 1:1 "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ..." A biblical servant of God does not live for their own personal agenda, but aligns their actions, choices, and obedience with God's will. It is my desire to follow Jesus Christ and to be his servant and to do his will.
I am a servant of God. I cannot be no other but this. By the grace of God I am a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. However because of my imperfect flesh, I believe I will still complain and be sad about the hardships that I will face in my life. I do know this, that God will be watching over me and guiding me and helping me to overcome my troubles. In my troubles God will refine me and make me into a better servant than I am. I will place my life into his hands. In God I will trust. I will always give glory to God and do my best to be the servant that he wants me to be.
